Paint Cupcakes

Today is Emma's 7th birthday! Tonight is her family party. I showed her both books: Hello, Cupcake and What's New, Cupcake? and let her pick which ones she wanted me to make. She picked the paint cupcakes out of the second book. I found these palettes at Hobby Lobby for only $3.99 each and they let me use a 40 % coupon off of both of them. So I got two for about 5 bucks!
I made marble cupcakes, my favorite! If you've never made them, you simply mix a yellow cake mix and a chocolate mix, then layer the batter as the pictures show.

I did yellow, chocolate, then a bit more yellow.

Then you get out the toothpicks and get your helpers ready to swirl!

While they were baking, I had to make the paintbrushes. I used Pirouette cookies instead of breadsticks like the book called for. You microwave tootsie rolls for 5 seconds and then smash them together and flatten it. Then you snip the lines in it to look like bristles. Next, you roll it up, and put a dab of frosting on the end. Put that end on your cookie, and have ready a rectangle of red fruit roll up. You wrap the fruit roll up around the seam where the bristles meet the cookie to cover it up. They look GREAT! I am SUPER excited at how great these turned out!

I will be making different cupcakes on Saturday for her kids party.
